How to export a GPX track from a Garmin chartplotter

Garmin chartplotters record your track continuously. Getting it out as a GPX file takes a memory card or the ActiveCaptain app, depending on your model.

   Save the active track

   On the plotter, open the track options (usually Info or User Data → Tracks) and save the active track so it becomes a stored track with a name.

   Export to the memory card

   Insert a memory card, then go to User Data → Manage Data (or Data Transfer) → Save to Card and select your tracks. Recent models write GPX directly; some older units write Garmin's own .ADM format.

   If you got an .ADM file, convert it

   Open the card in Garmin's free ActiveCaptain or Garmin Express on your computer — both can re-export user data as GPX. The ActiveCaptain mobile app can also sync tracks off the plotter and share them as GPX.

   Import into Bosco

   Send the GPX to your phone or computer, open Bosco, create a voyage and import the file. Stopovers, distances and countries are detected automatically.

Model menus vary slightly (GPSMAP, echoMAP, ECHOMAP UHD) but the Save-to-Card flow exists on all of them.
