What is a GPX file?

GPX (GPS Exchange Format) is the universal, open file format for GPS data. If a device records where you sailed, it can almost certainly export a GPX.

   What's inside

   A GPX file is plain text (XML). A recorded voyage is a 'track' — an ordered list of points, each with latitude, longitude and usually a timestamp. That point list IS your sailed line, tack by tack.

   Tracks vs routes

   A track (<trk>) is what you actually sailed, recorded behind you. A route (<rte>) is what you plan to sail, drawn ahead of you. Bosco imports both: tracks become your voyage, routes become the dotted 'still to sail' overlay.

   Where to get one

   Navionics, Garmin, Raymarine, B&G, OpenCPN, most watches and even phone apps export GPX. See our per-device guides for the exact taps.
